Psychotherapy
My Philosophy:
I see people, not patients. I believe that psychotherapy is a wonderful tool for anyone who is looking to improve his or her quality of life. It is for people who want to become more conscious, to improve their relationships, and to connect to their highest self.
As a psychotherapist, I explore the experience of being human – all its blessings and trappings. In my experience, emotional health is just as crucial to our well being as going to the gym or eating healthfully is to our physical form. We are made up of mind, body, and spirit and optimal health requires that we engage in regular practices that nourish all three. I work in a holistic manner, which means that in addition to traditional talk therapy we might explore how your spiritual/religious beliefs intersect with your psychological health or use the wisdom of the body by working experientially and somatically.
I believe that therapy should provide a safe and supportive environment to explore relational issues in a manner that allows you to do things differently than you might in the “real world.” These experiences build new neural pathways in the brain and aid you in transferring new skills back to your life. I do not function as a “blank slate” in therapy. I am actively engaged in the process and let you know what is coming up for me so we can utilize the relationship itself as a tool for growth.
I work with adolescent and adult individuals and have expertise with issues related to depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma and relational concerns. I welcome meeting with you personally to discuss your hopes and goals for therapy and to see if we are a good fit for one another.
